A Second Close Call for Trump
Former President Donald Trump has spoken out following an apparent assassination attempt that took place at his Florida golf course on Sunday. Trump, in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, placed blame directly on President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, stating that their “rhetoric” has led to these dangerous attacks.
“He believed the rhetoric of Biden and Harris, and he acted on it,” Trump stated, referring to the alleged gunman, Ryan Wesley Routh, who authorities say attempted to shoot the former president at Trump International in West Palm Beach, Florida.
“Their Rhetoric is Causing Me to Be Shot At”
Authorities apprehended Routh on Interstate 95 after he fled the scene, leaving behind an AK-47-style rifle, two backpacks, and a GoPro camera. This marks the second assassination attempt against Trump since July. The Secret Service described the incident as a targeted attack on the former president.
Trump did not hold back in his criticism of the current administration, asserting that Routh “acted” on “highly inflammatory language” from Democratic leaders. “Their rhetoric is causing me to be shot at, when I am the one who is going to save the country, and they are the ones that are destroying the country — both from the inside and out,” Trump declared.
He accused Biden and Harris of undermining the nation, stating, “It is called the enemy from within. They are the real threat.”
Routh Voted for Trump in 2016
A background check revealed that Routh, a 58-year-old builder from Hawaii, has had run-ins with the law dating back to the 1990s. Routh had been a Trump supporter, even voting for him in the 2016 election, but has since become an outspoken critic. His social media pages this year echoed Biden and Harris’ “democracy is on the ballot” rhetoric, stressing the importance of a Democratic win.
Despite his shift in political allegiance, Trump contends that the real problem lies in the “combination of rhetoric and lawsuits” wielded against him by the current administration. “These are the things that dangerous fools, like the shooter, listen to,” Trump said. “That is the rhetoric they listen to, and the same with the first one.”
“Democrats Are Protected by the Media”
Reflecting on last week’s debate against Harris, Trump sharply criticized the media’s portrayal of the event, claiming it was a biased attack against him. “The media is made up of fools that will spew [Democrats’] garbage and spew their sick philosophies and will protect them at all costs,” he stated, highlighting his belief that the media provides unfair protection to Democratic candidates.
Trump went on to label the debate on ABC News as “so biased and so out of control.” He directly accused Harris of lying about key issues, saying, “Harris was the one lying about Project 2025, she lied about abortion, she lied about everything.” Frustrated by the perceived media bias, he added, “It was three against one.”
Biden and Harris Under Fire
The former president didn’t stop at criticizing the media. He also attacked the Biden-Harris administration’s policies, particularly concerning immigration. “Biden and Harris’ policies are destroying the country by allowing millions of very dangerous migrants to pour into it and destroying our country and cities,” he charged. “On the outside, we are weak and feeble and not respected by the world anymore.”
As of now, the White House, Harris’ campaign, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Harris’ running mate, have not responded to requests for comment on Trump’s statements.
